FAQ FOR CLIENTS

  • What are the main benefits of MST?

Integrated assessment procedures will supply you with a more accurate picture of the cause of your problem. Accurate assessment gives you more confidence in the practitioner and in the final result.

Treatment directed at causes rather than symptoms results in a much shorter visit. This is especially an advantage for those that live a busy lifestyle. As most conditions respond faster than conventional methods this results in a decrease in the overall treatment cost.

I have been to some practitioners and they spend only a short time with me and my expectations are that I will not get the same results as a practitioner that spends a lot of time with me? Are the MST practitioners thorough?
A highly skilled practitioner does not require that same time as an average practitioner to uncover the root cause or causes within your body. He or she can cut out a lot of unnecessary processes when you have the training and experience to work efficiently. Most MST practitioners particularly those who are able to use the title Myopractor are very thorough and are also time efficient.

How long does a typical session last for?
The first visit normally involves a lot of body assessment as well as treatment therefore that will take anywhere from 30 - 50 minutes. The follow up visits are normally 20 - 30 minutes.

How often do I need to go for a treatment?
For recent onset problems 2 or 3 weekly visits is often all that is required to fix the cause and eliminate the symptoms. However for long standing problems 10 weekly visits followed up with fortnightly or monthly visits over a period of at least 6 months may be needed to release the deep underlying issues within the body. Many people have harboured causes that go back for over 20 years and so these have become almost a permanent structure within their body.

I do have a long standing problem, is there anything that I can do to help in the process that will perhaps shorten the time frame of recovery?
Most people do not realise the power they have within their own resources to assist in their recovery. Many people have become totally dependent on practitioners for their health. MST practitioners have a philosophy that says that education is more important than healing. So your MST practitioner will be very keen to explain to you all about your bodily distortions and will give you information on what you can do to eliminate the problem. If you have put the measures into place 50% of the final result will be due to your effort. The measures that the MST practitioner will normally recommend is changing certain habits of lifting, or working and also to perform daily specific therapeutic movements that he or she will prescribe for you.

What kind of treatment will I expect in a typical MST visit?
Most MST practitioners use a series of cross fibre muscle moves at specific points along the sides of muscles or other soft tissues. After a few moves the practitioner may leave the room for a few minutes to allow your body time to adjust to the new body positions that the moves have created. In some cases a deep move, rubbing or holding may be required to correct a problem.

    Is the treatment very painful?
The pressure used by the practitioner varies from light to firm depending on a number of factors such as the person’s build, the state of the tissue being worked on and the person’s degree of sensitivity. Many of the moves being on the surface of the body are only light and therefore are not painful. However for some people who have deep issues in the muscles they may feel some pain owing to the resistance of the knots or lesions being released. In cases like this, the practitioner will give you some prior warning as to the nature of the problem and what you are likely to experience. Let’s face it even if pain is experienced briefly during a visit, but progress is being made, isn’t it better to experience this unpleasant sensation for a few minutes than to spend all of your time in pain on your daily activities.

Do I have to take my clothes off in preparation for the treatment?
If you are required to have a postural analysis your practitioner will prepare you for this assessment ahead of time and you will be required to wear a tight fitted garment such as a swim suit. During your normal visit where a couch assessment and treatment are performed the practitioner will require you to remove your outer clothing. During this time he or she will leave the room instructing you to lie on the treatment couch under the cover of a large towel, sheet or blanket. During the assessment and treatment the practitioner will uncover only that part of the body that he or she is working on at the time. MST practitioners are trained to ensure that a person is not unduly exposed at any time during a visit. You as a person have the right to insist on having all of your assessment and treatment performed while you are fully clothed. However just be aware that the practitioner will not be able to perform their services at the highest level. Skin colour, fluid spots, contraction signs, blood vessel engorgements and many other visual features that the practitioner looks for are all hidden from their eyes. If you do insist on clothing then please wear a non slippery type of fabric as the treatment moves will also be compromised if the practitioner’s fingers and thumbs are not able to get the optimal grip on the tissue.

How soon will my symptoms disappear?
This is not an easy question to answer as every person is different and it will also depend on how long the main cause has been developing. In general a recent onset problem will clear up in a few days or weeks. In these acute cases a reduction of symptoms may occur right from the first visit improving continually during the following week. In other cases the symptoms can actually increase for a few days (often called the reactive period) then subside towards the end of the first week. People in this category normally have a better result in the long run. ·Obviously long term sufferers cannot expect their symptoms to disappear overnight. They will experience slow but steady improvements over a period of many months.

    FAQ FOR PRACTITIONERS

What advantages exist if I switch over from my current modality to MST?
Superior body diagnostics gives you a more accurate picture of the root cause of the client’s problems allowing you to eliminate unneccessary work .

What pathways are open to me if I want to change over to an MST practitioner?

You can train full time at a recognised college completing the course in a very short space of time.

You can attend training workshops at specific weekends. The rest of the course may be completed part time without greatly disrupting your current work situation.

Your current qualifications and experience may give you some exemptions in aspects of the course. This will result in less cost and it reduces your training time.

Is your MST related to other modalities?
There are other MST courses available however ours may lead to acquiring the status of a Myopractor while the others will not owing to a different form of training.

Bowen therapy and our MST have a common origin in that the basic moves can be traced back to Tom Bowen a practitioner in Geelong Victoria. Bowen therapy lacks body assessment whereas our emphasis on assessment makes our modality stand out.

MST believes in using the right tool for the job and so you would find many aspects of our work that may be used in other therapies. We use various forms of treatment methods that have common links to many other modalities.
